The Excuse Makers And The Other People

songtown- excuses

In the music business, I see two general categories of people – the excuse makers and the other people.  The excuse makers always seem to have a lot going on.  So much, in fact, that they can’t ever seem to get around to doing the things that would cause them to succeed as a songwriter.  They are doing LOTS of things and appear to be BUSY, but somehow there’s always a reason why they don’t have time to do the things that would help them get ahead. The excuse makers say things like:

“I know I should _________ but ….”

“I wish I had more time to devote to this”

“I’m just not good at _______________”

On the other side of the aisle, we have the other people.  The other people are the ones making progress and getting closer every day to what they want to achieve.  They don’t have any more time in their day than the excuse makers, but they somehow get the important things done.  As they learn new things to do that would help them succeed, they implement them quickly.  And they do things whether or not they are good at them or confident in doing them.  They are heard saying things like:

“I’m going to make this work”

“I don’t know how to do that, but I’ll learn”

“I want to get better at this”

You can guess which group is knocking the ball out of the park?  The other people.  If you want to succeed, stop making excuses.  Join the other people.
