Songwriters: What’s A SongTown?

Every now and then, because we have so many new people joining us, we like to remind everyone why Clay and I created Songtown. We built this city on several pillars that we hope will keep it standing for many years. So, in a nutshell, here are the founding principles of SongTown.

Community

We wanted to provide positive encouraging community for writers at any level. We have benefitted from the music community in Nashville, so we hope to provide something like that for people who are not in a community like that already. We promote community through our forums on the website, through live events and through virtual events like webinars or online classes.

Coaching

We have seen a number of people get ripped off because they weren’t educated about the music business. We wanted to change that. And, we have heard MANY people complain or express frustration that nothing is going on with their music when the truth of the matter is, they really need to write better songs. So, we want to educate writers about the business side of things AND to coach them into better writing. We believe that “write better songs” is the answer to almost every question people ask.

Connection

We wanted to help connect talented with people with other talented people. We have seen a number of amazing co-writing relationships develop through Songtown. We’ve seen members get songs recorded by a major label artist for the first time because they connected with the right people. We’ve just had one of our members sign with a veteran song plugger who is working her music. And we have had several members who have started a working relationship with a publisher that we introduced them to. We love to connect people to other people that can help get things done with their music!!

We like to add to those pillars a healthy dose of honesty. We don’t sugar coat anything. If your songs are great, we will tell you. If they aren’t, we will tell you, but we will also show you how to make them better.
